Abstract
This study aimed at knowing the training needs necessary to develop the professional competencies of Sudanese university professors. Professors of the University of the holy Qur’an and Tseel of Science as a model. The training needs helps those in charge of training to design a training program according to a vision stemming from the convictions of the target group. The researcher adopted the descriptive analytical method. The questionnaire was also used as a tool for collecting data. The questionnaire was distributed to a sample of (144) professors, including 111 males and 33 females working in three colleges within the city of Wad Madani (Faculty of education, Sharia and Faculty of education Basic). The results of the study showed that the degree of need of faculty members at the University of the Holy Qur’an and Taseel of Science in the field of planing was great, as each of them obtained an average of (3.71), followed by the evaluation with an average of (3.71).) As for community service, it scored (3.70), followed by scientific research with an average of (3.64), and finally, Taseel (3.62). All of this confirms that training has a role in raising the professional competencies of university professors. There were no statistically significant differences in the study sample regarding the training needs to develop their professional competencies due to the gender variable (male/ female). Based on these results, the researcher presented a number of recommendations and suggestions.
